Methodology
How our practice questions are made
Every question on this site follows the same path: written from publicly available guidance, screened for medical accuracy, and individually approved by a human reviewer before it is ever shown to a learner. This page explains that process.
Question bank last reviewed July 2026.
Where the questions come from
Our questions are original. They are written from publicly available lifeguarding and first-aid knowledge — the guidance published by the Australian and New Zealand Committee on Resuscitation (ANZCOR) and public lifesaving references — and organized around the topics the Australian pool lifeguard theory exam covers.
We never copy, paraphrase, or reproduce any training provider's copyrighted manual. The underlying facts of CPR, first aid, and rescue technique are public knowledge; every question and explanation here is written from scratch.
The review gate
Questions are drafted with AI assistance, then screened by an automated medical-accuracy review that flags anything doubtful. Safety-critical content — CPR ratios, defibrillator use, choking care, spinal injury care — gets extra scrutiny, and flagged disputes are settled against the primary ANZCOR guideline documents.
Nothing is published automatically. A human reviews every question and its explanation, and only questions explicitly marked approved are ever served. Every question live on this site today has passed that review.
Which guidelines we follow
Questions on the Australian edition of this site follow current ANZCOR guidance — for example DRSABCD, compressions-to-breaths at 30:2 for all ages, and back blows and chest thrusts for choking. That genuinely differs from American (AHA/ECC) protocols, which is why every practice question carries a badge naming the guideline body it follows. A question should only be judged against the guidelines of its own edition.
Independence
LifeguardReady is an independent study aid. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way associated with Royal Life Saving Society – Australia, Surf Life Saving Australia, or any lifeguard certifying body. This tool provides original practice questions covering publicly available lifeguarding and first-aid knowledge, based on ANZCOR guidance; it is not medical advice, not first-aid/CPR training, and not a substitute for an accredited certification course.
